About the Summit
What is the International Summit on the Teaching Profession?
The first International Summit on the Teaching Profession (ISTP) was held in New York in 2011. Organised by the United States Secretary for Education, the OECD and Education International, it was designed to engage governments and teacher organisations in a discussion to share global best practice and create a stronger teaching profession.
The Summit was held outside the United States for the first time in 2013 when it was hosted in Amsterdam by the Netherlands Government. This event helped spark what is now a truly global conversation around improving education.
In 2014, the Summit will be held in New Zealand. Education Ministers, teacher unions and teaching leaders from the 25 highest performing school systems in the OECD have been invited, along with the five fastest improving countries.
